In June last year, Aketekete’s studio moved from Elmina to the modern, eclectic, and creative city of Accra.

Measuring success for Aketekete includes counting the sustainable improvements and partnerships made. From materials sourcing to collaborations made, and finally production.

Basket weaving is a common form of art, but an uncommon skill for many. It develops deep roots in ethnic groups; supports the passing of a craft for generations while creating a community feeling among the members.

There’s something so special about traveling to the North of Ghana. Maybe it's to see the community of weavers gathering together,sharing their traditions, and following their heritage. Showing us their reality, their home, their family, and letting us be part of it.

A few weeks ago we had the chance to celebrate Ghanaian craft and culture with part of our friends and family in Barcelona. Three days of meeting people, discussing about craft, processes, and stories, share thoughts and big laughs.

Elmina. The beauty and simplicity of its salty-aired port. Women who inspire us sell the freshly-caught fish while wearing intricate layers of colorful fabrics. Sharing laughs. Their worked hands, their persistent strength continues to inspire us to create our home and create our story.
