Crafted in Ghana
βAketeketeβ is an ode to the past and to never being forgotten.
A connection to nature and its forms.
To celebrate culture, origins and stories otherwise lost.
We value collaborating and connecting with creatives to design modern objects with age-old techniques by supporting artisan communities to make them.
Our collection explores the creation of objects that allow you to see, feel, carry,
and value part of a place and its people. We admire the beauty of uniqueness, irregularities, and the grace of craft - the expression of ourselves by creating pieces we dream of.
The Beginnings
The colorful world of Aketekete started in 2020 when our founder Maria Bernat Astorga in collaboration with Michael Nana Gyan decided to learn more about Ghanaian craft and processes.
Through trips, meeting and working closely with local artisans, they realized the level of uniqueness and detailed skills passed by centuries displayed by these craftspeople.
Maria with an eagerness to share and promote its work, decided to partner with Ghanaian artisans and weave a story of transparency, value, and craft, where the artisan is the main focus of the process and the reason Aketekete exists.

The βVALUEβ
Aketekete started with a main goal: keeping the βVALUEβ in each step - from design to delivery.
ARTISAN VALUE: Create fair jobs for artisans while supporting the development of the communities through training, and skill developmet.
TRADITIONAL VALUE: Promote and continue the old, ancestral crafting techniques by sharing its stories.
ENVIRONMENTAL VALUE: Follow sustainable, environmentally friendly processes for production and also for human resources. We seek to adhere to our philosophy of using natural materials locally sourced in Ghana or bordering countries to reduce our carbon footprint.
PRICE VALUE: Promote transparency about production costs and secure fair prices for each of our artisans.
FINAL OWNER VALUE: Every one of our products has its own unique story. We want our customers to know who crafted each product, where it was produced, and how it was made.
