Dive into the heart of our latest adventure – a mesmerizing collaboration with the artisan haven, Sousou Corner, nestled in the vibrant streets of Taiwan. A unique request: oversized masterpieces that defy convention, born from a fusion of Ghanaian tradition and creativity, leaving onlookers spellbound.

The journey began with an irresistible invitation from Judy at SouSou Corner, who beckoned us to weave our magic and showcase the timeless artistry of Bolga Weaving to the world and spark discussions about sustainability in Africa. The stage? None other than the beautiful space of Aveda’s Store in Da'an District, Taiwan – a perfect canvas for our craft to shine.

THE UNVEILING

Designed by our team and brought to life by the skilled hands of Christopher, the pieces were woven: two giant Bolga Woven Fans, standing tall at a staggering 180cm x 120cm each. Christopher, who is our Weaving Production Manager and a true Master Weaver, poured his heart and soul into every twist and turn of the straw, transforming raw materials into vibrant works of art.

The process was poetry in motion – a delicate dance of tradition and innovation, that not only showed the incredible skills of Christopher but also his knowledge, patience, and love for the craft. The delicate hands of Christopher meticulously split and twisted each piece of straw to prepare it to dye it in its most brilliant and stunning colors. While woven baskets are started by the base and woven circularly, fans are mostly dependent on the handle, which will keep the structure of the fan and allow its shape. The fans, woven with the highest quality of straw, are woven from one side to the other, always calculating the pattern and design beforehand, with incredible attention to detail. With unwavering dedication, he meticulously wove each straw, infusing it with vibrant hues and intricate patterns.

Each fan, a testament to the fusion of heritage craftsmanship and contemporary flair, took a painstaking 18 days to complete.

But the magic didn’t stop there. Inspired by the kaleidoscope of colors in our Giant Rainbow Fans, our group of artisans unleashed their creativity, crafting 30 bespoke baskets for Sou Sou Corner that whispered tales of tradition and promises of adventure. From the elegant curves of the Zoore Basket to the rustic charm of the Kilika Basket, and the charm of the Taabi Basket Small, each piece bore the imprint of passion and ingenuity of our artisans. They reimagined pieces and created new color combinations and patterns never designed before.

The grand reveal was nothing short of enchanting – a symphony of colors and textures that sparked curiosity and ignited imaginations. Together with the Sousou Corner Team, we dared to dream. This project pushed our limits, but the end result speaks volumes.
